The work
It is not a sex technique. Most of it has nothing to do with sex at all. It is the practice of staying present with intensity without leaving, which turns out to be the whole thing.
Almost everything you have heard about Tantra is marketing.
It is not a sex technique. It is not about lasting longer. It is not a weekend of strangers in loose clothing, and the vast majority of it has nothing to do with sex at all.
Here is what it actually is, and why it changes people's intimate lives so completely despite not really being about sex.
At its centre, Tantra treats life force as a real and workable thing. Sexual energy is not separate from creative energy, or spiritual energy, or the energy you bring to your work. It is one current, and most systems either ignore it or split it off as something slightly shameful.
What Tantra teaches is how to stay present with intensity without leaving.
Intensity meaning anything strong enough that your habit is to go somewhere else. Pleasure counts. So does grief, rage, fear, and being genuinely seen by another person.
Almost every sexual difficulty I work with is a leaving problem. You go into your head. Into performing. Into checking how you look, or whether they are enjoying it, or what this means. You are technically present and actually somewhere else entirely.
"Most people do not have a technique problem. They have a leaving problem."
There are three pieces I teach most often, and none of them will look like what you are expecting.
Kundalini, or life force. The energy that sits at the base of the spine, activated through conscious breath and intention. When it moves, people describe heightened awareness and a sense of connection to themselves that is difficult to reach any other way. It is not mystical to feel. It is very physical.
Moving energy through the chakras. The energy centres running up the body. Guided breath and sound move energy through each one, clearing what is stuck and increasing what is available. Each centre that opens tends to make the next thing possible. The throat opening is often what finally lets someone say what they want.
Non sexual touch. Tantra treats touch as ritual rather than technique. Learning to give and receive touch with attention and no agenda is, for most couples, the single most destabilising thing in the work. Being fully seen and fully accepted while nothing is being asked of you is unfamiliar to most adults.
This is the piece people either dismiss or get overly excited about, and both reactions miss it.
Sex magic is the practice of using sexual energy deliberately, with intention, rather than letting it discharge without direction. In tantric philosophy that energy is the most potent form of life force available to a person, capable of far more than physical pleasure.
The practice itself is unglamorous. You become clear about what you actually want. You set an intention. You use breath and visualisation to direct energy toward it rather than away from it.
With a partner it compounds, because you are synchronising two intentions and two nervous systems at once. Intimacy stops being something you consume and becomes something you make.
Because the thing standing between most people and a good intimate life is not skill.
It is that they cannot stay. Not with sensation, not with intensity, not with being looked at closely by someone who knows them. So they perform, or they numb, or they manage the other person's experience, and afterwards they feel a loneliness they cannot explain because technically nothing went wrong.
Tantra trains the capacity to stay. Everything else follows from that, usually without needing to be taught.
"Presence is not a mood you arrive in. It is a capacity you build, and the body is where it gets built."
I teach this the practical way. No robes, no dogma, and no chanting unless you want to. I am a Certified Couple's Tantric Sex Coach and a Certified Men's Sexuality Coach, and the work is designed to be usable on an ordinary weeknight in your own home.
You do not need to believe anything to begin. You only need to be willing to feel what is already there.
Soulsation
Soulsation is my breath and sound method. A guided journey through each energy centre, built entirely from breath, and the fastest way I know to feel what is described here rather than read about it.
